The contest is open to high school seniors who are U.S. citizens, have demonstrated excellence in scholastic achievement and leadership in their communities and have financial need.

The Hilo Elks Lodge No. 759 is at 150 Kinoole St. in downtown Hilo. Applications may be downloaded from www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Please contact lodge Chairperson Lily Chan Harris with any questions at 935-1717.

The Elks National Foundation awards $2.3 million annually in MVS scholarships to 500 high school students nationwide. The applicant under consideration will be attending a four-year college and the total scholarship amount awarded will be divided over the four years he or she is enrolled.

“The students’ parents do not have to be Elk members,” explained Hilo Elks First Vice President Lisa Fleury. “The Hilo Elks look forward to receiving applications from our talented East Hawaii high school seniors.”
